Hey everyone -
What a week it has been! Over the last five days, we have had memorial services for two high school students in our community. It has been a tremendously difficult time, but we have also seen God moving in powerful ways in and through the lives of our students. I'm reminded of a portion of one of the songs we have sung recently:
Scars and struggles on the way
But with joy our hearts can say,
yes our hearts can say:
Never once did we ever walk alone
Never once did you leave us on our own
You are faithful, God you are faithful!
This Sunday, in response to the events of the week, Larry went out of order on the sermons and preached on Psalm 23. He talked about how beautiful and well-loved this particular Psalm is.
This is true partially because the Psalm is so visual - the imagery used (shepherd, still waters, cup runneth over) are truly captivating. However, the main reason this Psalm is so well-loved is that we are so vulnerable. We truly are like sheep. We may try to come across as strong and self-reliant, but when it comes down to it, we are in desperate need of a shepherd. The good news found in Psalm 23 is that there is a good shepherd, and his goodness and mercy will follow us all the days of our lives.
